Autumn Moon Festival
Zhong Qiu Jie or the Autumn Moon Festival (or Mid-Autumn Festival) falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (sometime in Sept or Oct. on the Gregorian calendar). It is the time when the moon is the fullest and brightest and is the time to celebrate the summer's harvest. It is a quite holiday spent with family and friends where people eat good food, hang pretty lanterns, and gaze at the moon. Traditional foods for Zhong Qiu Jie are round and are water based like oranges, watermelons, pomelos, and moon cakes.
We attended the Atlanta Moon Festival last night and had a nice time. Emma Rae made a lantern and colored a chinese fan. She learned that she shouldn't eat crayons!! We met some new friends and shared adoption stories. Many people recognized Emma Rae from the Families with Children from China Website....She is the featured child on the internet for their website homepage. She is a celebrity already!!! At the end of the night, everyone participated in a lantern parade. It was so neat seeing all the chinese children dressed up in their native outfits!
